Wig Size Guide

Wig Size Guide

Just as you would consider the size for a new top or pair of shoes before you buy, considering correct wig measurements is essential for a comfortable fit.

If you are buying one of our many gorgeous wigs, one of your first priorities should be looking up how to measure your head for a wig. This is a straightforward procedure that will ensure your wig measurements are right for you.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through the wig measurement process and what sizes are available. To avoid being caught out, make sure you check out our guide to how wig size can vary between brands before you buy!

Wig Size Measurements

Wig size measurements can be a little overwhelming at first with the range of sizes out there. So, here is an overview of the general wig sizes and what they mean.

How to Measure for a Wig

Getting your wig measurements doesn’t have to be complicated – just follow three easy steps! We’ve provided an image for reference to keep you right.

  • Take a soft tape measure and measure from the front of your hairline to just above your ears.
  • Wrap the tape measure around to where your neck bends, under the occipital bone (which is also called the Bone of Knowledge!) .
  • Bring it back round to the front hairline where you started.

If you are measuring on top of your natural hair, we would advise that you ensure it is as flat as possible to give you a more precise measurement.

If you love a certain style but don’t know if it is available in your size, you can always check the ‘Details’ tab which features on every wig product page on our website. This tab will provide you with detailed product information to check the wig sizes currently available for your favourite wig. It also gives you colour availability and the approximate dimensions of the nape, crown and fringe to make sure you’ve got a wig that fits you in all the right places.

Getting the right wig size is important and we hope you feel more confident with how to measure your wig size as it will make a difference to how comfortable you feel. If you’re worried about your wig being too big and slipping or being so tight that you get a headache, you’re much less likely to wear it – and besides, we want to see you looking and feeling amazing. So let’s get the wig size right and feel as fabulous as we look!

  1. Why do manufacturers not give a better choice in wig styles for petite size heads. I don’t want a pixie or a long style. I’ve seen a few styles I like but they don’t come in petite or it’s a popular style and I can’t find it.
Petite / average is a little big on me when measured from forehead hairline to nape, in a Jon Renau

  2. I have an odd size head too:
    Circumference= 21.5 inches
    Ear to ear= 12 inches
    Hairline to nape 11 inches
    Hairline to chin= 8.25 inches
Would a wig that has a cap ‘that molds itself to fit your head’ be a good choice?

  3. My head measures 57cm would I go up a size or stay regular, I have thinning bobbed hair to tuck in my wig cap, I’m interested in Zara Jon Renau .

  4. Due to the circumference of your head measuring 21.5 inches, this classes you as the bottom side of average.
It would depend on what you would like to order, as the sizes can vary throughout the different wig brands.
Would you like to give us a call or an email with the items you are interested in, we can then advise you further with which size would be most suitable for you?

  5. To whom it may concern,
Thank you for the useful information. From ear to ear, I’m 11/2 in. Circumference 21 1/2 in. But from forehead to the nape of my neck I’m only 11 1/2 in. I guess I have a weird head. lol
    Would I order a petite?
    Looking forward to your reply.

  6. Never knew wigs came in different sizes. Nobody ever told me and I’ve worn wigs for years. Thanks for the info.
